Samuel Douglas McEnery Letter, 1883

Samuel Douglas McEnery (1837-1910) was the governor of Louisiana from 1881 until 1888. The collection is a typed transcript (location of original unknown) of a letter, 1883, from Jefferson Davis to Samuel D. McEnery, asking for clemency for Horace Blackman, who was convicted at Lake Providence, La., as accessory to assault with intent to kill.
